Another little gadget that leaves nothing to error. This app driven device fits to your bike on the axle , the string hooks to your seat or subframe and data reads the distance to show unladen sag, rider sag.
See the same read out, in this instance 27mm, using unladen sag, then the difference with a rider sat on the bike, we can set the sag to suit your weight or identify if the spring is correct.
It all starts with a static feel of your bikes reaction. Then to find the three magic numbers.
Only experience can give the feedback found in the process of feeling how the shock absorber reacts. The rate of how the damping reacts to being bounced. No amount of experience can simulate the forces generated through riding. This process will, at least, put us on the scale and determine if your bike is sprung correctly
The process is the same at the front, setting sag for those bikes with pre-load adjustment, or identifying spring suitability is a dark art. If the front doesn't track the terrain in any discipline, your bike will not turn, brake or give any sensation of control or comfort. The front is set to match the back.
Not all bikes have adjustments, some need internal modification or just servicing. Where adjustable provision is available, the bike will always be given a good start point, with follow up adjustment accommodated by your feedback of the riding experience. It is not an endless provision, but is a set up test, and re-adjust procedure.
Nothing truly works like getting out on the road, to feel what any changes give, we could be like others and work to specs for a different rider, with a different style, a different pace. An SWB set up is individual, for you and your comfort, not just about your bike model and your weight and height.
The last bit is totally dependent on what you tell us, we want to know what you found in your test run. Did it turn better, did it brake better, was the ride more confidence inspiring, does the bike feel more controllable. There will usually be a bit of fine dialling, at both ends. You don't get that in a mail order service!
There will always be someone who didn't feel the true benefit, but they are the riders who don't know the scope of their bikes.
A true rider has sensitivity, they ride within their own and their motorcycles ability.
So far we have only found eight cats, but the other two will eventually show up we feel certain.
